Sacrament Preparation Guidelines and Schedule
 
Baptism Preparation
 
Baptism classes are held as needed for parents and Godparents to prepare for this special event in their child’s life. There will be no baptisms scheduled during the Advent and Lenten Seasons. Please contact Deacon Wayne Adams at (336) 475-5959 to sign up for the classes in English. 
 
On the second Sunday of each month there is a Baptism Preparation for the Spanish community in the parish hall. Contact Elia Solis at 475-9484 for more information.
 
 
First Reconciliation Preparation
(Ages 7-8 years old or in grades 2-3)
 
1.      Children must be at least 7 years old by December 1.
2.      Children must have regularly attended Faith Formation classes or been enrolled in a Home School program the previous school year, as well as the present school year.
3.      Children must attend all 4 weeks of direct preparation to receive the sacrament.
4.      Children must be able to distinguish between accidental and deliberate wrong (sin).
5.      Children must be aware of the need for forgiveness and then trust in the forgiving love of Jesus.
6.      Children must be able to express wrongdoing and sorrow in his/her own words.
7.      Children must freely desire to receive the sacrament.
8.      Children should have a simple understanding that the priest and the church have a special role in bringing God’s forgiveness.
9.      Children should attend Mass regularly.
Direct Preparation Classes: Sunday mornings November 16 and 23, December 7 and 14, from 11am-Noon
 
Date of First Reconciliation: Monday evening December 15, 2008, at 7pm
 
First Holy Communion Preparation
(Ages 7-8 years old or in grades 2-3)
 
1.      Children must have made their First Reconciliation at least 2 months prior to receiving First Holy Communion.
2.      Children must have regularly attended Faith Formation classes or been enrolled in a Home School program the previous school year, as well as the present school year.
3.      Children must attend all 6 weeks of direct preparation as well as the retreat to receive the sacrament.
4.      Children must know the Lord and have a simple awareness of a relationship with Him.
5.      Children must be able to distinguish the Eucharist as Jesus being present in the signs of bread and wine.
6.      Children should have a desire to receive the Lord Jesus in Holy Communion.
7.      Children should participate regularly in Mass.

Date of First Reconciliation: TBA
 
Confirmation Preparation
(Ages 14-18 years old or in grades 8 and above)
 
1.      Candidates must have regularly attended Faith Formation classes or been enrolled in a Home School program for at least 2 years prior to enrollment as a candidate for Confirmation.
2.      Candidates should freely desire the sacrament and understand it fully.
3.      Candidates should have a living faith in Jesus Christ.
4.      Candidates must demonstrate and understanding of Catholicism by active, regular worship and service.
5.      Candidates must have a sponsor who is at least 16 years of age and confirmed in the Church. Parents of candidates may not be his/her sponsor.
Candidates must attend their regular Faith Formation classes as well as attend the retreat and all of the Final Preparation classes; which will be held on Sunday afternoons from 4:00pm - 6:00pm the last 3-4 months before the Confirmation date. The exact date of Confirmation will be given to us by the Bishop’s office in January.
